EP and PR: Long-Term Records Are Not a Status Guarantee
Employment Pass and Permanent Residence use different procedures and authorities. Keep genuine employment, tax and family records to explain work and life in Singapore. EP duration or turnover is not a formula for PR approval, and incorporation or tax compliance is not an automatic status pathway.
Different purposes
EP concerns a work pass; PR concerns permanent residence. ICA lists EP and S Pass holders among eligible categories, but eligibility to apply is not approval or an automatic conversion.
Organise records by purpose
Maintain work, income, company and family records for future discussions. Check requirements for each process rather than treating an EP checklist as a complete PR checklist.
Avoid an outcome-based timetable
Confirm present status and employment before discussing PR preparation. Years of holding a pass do not guarantee permanent residence; plan family and business arrangements for different outcomes.
Preparation Example
For simultaneous EP renewal and PR planning, keep two checklists. Store common records consistently but confirm responsibilities, timing and submission requirements separately; progress in one is not an outcome in the other.
Pre-consultation Checklist
Current pass status; work and income records; family documents; application purpose and timing.
EP Questions and Practical Answers
How long must a founder hold EP to be guaranteed PR?
There is no automatic approval timeline to promise. Check ICA’s eligibility and document guidance; ICA decides applications. Maintain truthful records rather than creating artificial arrangements to promise a status outcome.
