Threshold and what counts
Entering or leaving with aggregate physical currency and bearer negotiable instruments exceeding S$20,000, or foreign-currency equivalent, requires Form NP 727. It applies to money carried for yourself or others. CBNI includes coins/notes and transferable bearer instruments such as cash-payable cheques, bearer bonds and money orders. The rule is reporting, not a cap on amounts carried.
Submit and retain the acknowledgement
Submit through e-727 or MyICA within 72 hours before each arrival/departure. Prepare personal details, instrument type, currency, amount, source and recipient where relevant. Retain the summary/email for checks. A completed online report is received electronically and need not be physically handed in.
Corrections and examples
If an amount, date or other submitted detail changes, void the old declaration and submit a new one. One declaration does not cover multiple border crossings; past reports are retrievable only within 14 days of submission. For example, S$15,000 cash plus S$7,000 equivalent in qualifying bearer instruments exceeds the threshold. Failure to make a complete accurate report can lead to seizure, a fine up to S$50,000 and/or up to three years’ imprisonment.
