Applying for exemption from GST registration

Predominantly zero-rated businesses can apply for registration exemption only if both required tests are met.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Key requirements

Zero-rated supplies must exceed 90% of total taxable supplies under the specified denominator, and the business must be in a net refundable position if registered. The denominator excludes the stated customer-accounting and reverse-charge receipts. Approval removes collection and filing obligations but also prevents recovery of purchase GST. Apply with F2 and supporting documents rather than assuming exemption automatically follows an export-heavy profile. Keep monitoring the quarterly mix and net-tax position. If exemption ceases and turnover exceeds S$1 million, notify IRAS within thirty days with the required historic and forecast figures.
