MediSave for Self-Employed People: Contributions and Relief

Compulsory contributions and voluntary top-ups follow different CPF and tax-relief routes. IRAS separates current rules from pre-2022 examples.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Compulsory contributions and notices

Singapore citizen or permanent-resident self-employed people with net trade income above S$6,000 must contribute, with the amount based on age and income. From 1 November 2024, contribution statements come directly from CPF Board. Pay within 30 days of the notice or follow the Board’s approved GIRO plan. The page’s rate table is for 2025 income assessed in YA 2026 and excludes platform net earnings already declared to CPF Board by operators.

Voluntary payments and limits

From 1 January 2022, qualifying own or family MediSave cash top-ups join CPF Cash Top-up Relief, with up to S$8,000 for self and S$8,000 for family under the stated limits. Self-employed contributors must be up to date with MediSave payable. Contributions under the Self-Employed Scheme have separate conditions, so instruct CPF Board correctly about the intended classification. The total S$80,000 personal relief cap still applies, and accepted voluntary contributions are not refunded merely because relief is capped. The page lists the 2026 Basic Healthcare Sum as S$79,000, with older members’ fixed sums governed by the age rules.
