Taxi and Private-Hire Income Pre-Filling: Four Filing Steps

The 9 January 2024 infographic combines operator income pre-filling with the 60% expense ratio.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Key steps and distinctions

A driver first opts in with the operator so that driving income is transmitted for pre-filling. During the 1 March to 18 April filing period, log in to myTax Portal, verify the pre-filled figure and declare any other income. The fixed deduction is calculated at 60% of gross driving income; amend incorrect pre-filled income or elect actual allowable expenses when these are higher. Submit the return after checking the remaining entries. A driver who has received a No-Filing Service notification need not submit a return solely because income is pre-filled, but must still check whether changes are required under the NFS instructions. The infographic highlights simplified record keeping and reduced entry errors. Its brief reference to listings without receipts should be read with the full simplified-record-keeping eligibility conditions, rather than treated as a blanket exemption for every driver. Pre-filling is a convenience for reporting income, not a guarantee that all income and claims are correct.
