Loss Carry-Back Relief

The ordinary carry-back relief applies to current-year unused allowances and trade losses, subject to a S$100,000 limit.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Key requirements

Qualifying deductions generally go back to the immediately preceding YA, with allowances applied before trade losses. Shareholding and applicable same-business tests must be satisfied, and the company must claim the relief. Remaining amounts may carry forward subject to those separate conditions. Group relief can affect the amount still available for carry-back. The source also describes enhanced three-year carry-back for YAs 2020 and 2021; those were period-specific support measures and are not the general rule for YA 2026. Donations are not included in this carry-back category. Reconcile elections, transferred items and prior-year income before expecting a refund.
