MediShield Life Premiums: Payment Support and IRAS Recovery Procedures

The IRAS page addresses unpaid MediShield Life premiums and recovery action. Coverage and premium assistance are distinct from the enforcement process.

Coverage and help with premiums

MediShield Life is CPF Board-administered basic health insurance for Singapore citizens and permanent residents, including people with pre-existing conditions. Government premium subsidies and other assistance may help eligible members. A person still unable to afford premiums can seek family MediSave support or apply for Additional Premium Support through the designated channels. IRAS states that inability to pay does not itself remove coverage; this should not be confused with an exemption from the premium obligation.

Late payment and recovery

IRAS and CPF Board act as recovery bodies for outstanding premiums. The page describes an initial 5% late-payment penalty after the Demand Note due date, a further 12% penalty where premiums remain unpaid one year later, and annual compounding interest of 4% for persistent delay. Possible recovery measures include appointing banks or other agents, offsets against specified government transfers, travel restrictions and legal action. Use the notice-specific payment details and contact the designated MediShield Life recovery channel if the amount or payment arrangement needs clarification.
