Module 2: Charging GST on Supplies – Standard-Rate

The standard-rate module shows why GST follows supply value rather than net cash or gross margin by default.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Key requirements

A machine sold for S$10,000 with S$1,000 trade-in plus S$9,000 cash still has a S$10,000 supply value. The traded item is a separate supply, including the customer’s output obligation if registered. Subsequent resale of that item uses its own full selling price. Where the seller absorbs GST, the amount paid is treated as inclusive and the tax fraction is 9/109, not zero. Apply invoice/payment timing to the reporting period. These examples are ordinary rules; specific approved margin schemes or the jewellery concession require their own eligibility rather than being inferred from a trade-in.
