Preparing and entering the service
The 23 October 2021 edition estimates five minutes and asks users to prepare Singpass, the reporting SGFI’s Singapore tax reference and an XML or PDF return no larger than 5MB. In myTax Portal, open More, AEOI and Submit CRS or FATCA Return. Tax agents select the client ID type and tax number and add up to four client references before continuing; non-agents skip that selection. Choose CRS or FATCA, financial institution or trustee-documented trust, and the appropriate current, advance or back reporting year.
CRS submission categories
New data covers a first return or additional records. Corrected data addresses an accepted CRS return with record-level errors notified by IRAS; void data cancels previously submitted records. Nil data applies where there were no reportable accounts for the year. A previously submitted nil return must first be voided through Void Nil Return before new data can be submitted. These actions should not be interchanged merely because a replacement file is available.
FATCA correction and amendment
The FATCA menu distinguishes corrected data following partner notifications from amended data following IRAS notification of an accepted return with record-level errors. It separately offers new data, nil data, void data and voiding a nil return. As for CRS, nil must be voided before subsequently filing new data. Later upload instructions in this edition sometimes use the combined wording corrected or void data even though the FATCA menu uses corrected or amended; select the actual category relevant to the notification and filing purpose.
Trust references and return uploads
For nil or void-nil filings for trustee-documented trusts, enter and add up to ten TDT reference IDs, then continue. Financial institutions making those filings skip this trust-reference step. Nil and void-nil submissions also skip file upload. Other submissions upload the XML or PDF within the 5MB limit, continue and confirm whether to proceed with the file. The TDT-reference and upload branches therefore depend on both entity and submission type.
Declarations and acknowledgement
Review the filing details and tick both declarations: information is true and correct, and the submitter understands penalties for an incorrect return. Submit and confirm the final prompt; choosing No cancels at the relevant confirmation stage. Successful filing opens an acknowledgement that can be saved as PDF or printed. Retain this evidence separately from the uploaded return.
