Who the factsheet covers
The factsheet covers Singapore citizens and permanent residents carrying on their own trade or business without employees, with a payment dispute involving a Singapore-registered or incorporated business. SEPs in sectors with a regulating or overseeing agency can continue approaching that agency for assistance.
Requesting mediation
The stated route is an appointment with TADM for voluntary mediation. The factsheet describes a registration fee of up to S$60 depending on the amount disputed. Prepare the service agreement, invoices, delivery/acceptance records, payment dates and correspondence so that the disputed sum can be explained clearly. Check the current appointment and fee instructions before making a request.
If agreement is reached
A mediated agreement records both parties’ commitments and may be registered with the State Courts for enforcement as a court order through the applicable procedure. Voluntary mediation should not be confused with deciding that the SEP is an employee or automatically obtaining a tribunal award.
