Vacation employment requirements
During a vacation, no work pass is required if the student is at least 14, holds an ICA-issued Student’s Pass, and is a full-time matriculated or registered student at an institution on MOM’s vacation list. All conditions must be met. There is no requirement to notify MOM before starting work under this exemption.

Waiting for results or convocation
A student from a listed institution may also work without a work pass while waiting for final examination results or convocation if that waiting period falls within the vacation. Once studies are completed and the Student’s Pass expires, a work pass is needed to work in Singapore, and the employer must apply for it.
Working during the school term
The student must hold an ICA-issued Student’s Pass and be a full-time matriculated or registered student at an institution on the term-time list. The work must either be limited to 16 hours a week or form part of an industrial attachment or internship programme conducted by the educational institution and contributing to graduation requirements. The placement may be compulsory or elective. No advance MOM notification is required.

Additional placements and excluded students
A work pass is required if a student takes leave of absence during the term to undertake additional industrial attachments that do not count towards graduation. Exchange students in Singapore are not permitted to work under this exemption. Foreign students coming to Singapore for a training attachment should use a Training Work Permit, Training Employment Pass or the Work Holiday Programme as applicable. Working without a required valid work pass is an offence.
