Case and status
IRAS announced two rental-income cases involving three people. Two were due to be charged on 16 March 2018 for omitted rent: one faced four counts concerning S$411,252 for YAs 2010–2013 and S$69,065.20 tax; the other faced three counts concerning S$299,769 for YAs 2012–2014 and S$52,854.75 tax, plus non-filing.
Facts, amounts and outcome
A third individual was due to face five charges on 13 April 2018 over falsified rental-expense invoices of S$284,308.52 for YAs 2009–2013, involving S$56,499.91 tax. The release gives proposed charges, not judgments. Undeclared rent and fictitious expense deductions are separate methods of reducing taxable rental income.
