What the release reports
Lau Liang Thye faced eleven unacceptable-housing abetment counts and one illegal-employment count; URA also charged him and Tay Kim Kiat over unauthorised residential conversion.
Details and conditions
A joint inspection found thirty-nine occupants at two Geylang shophouses, including twenty-two migrant workers. Lau allegedly hired a tenant for housekeeping and rent collection in exchange for reduced rent.
Context and follow-up
Workers were relocated to approved housing. The 2021 release describes a six-unrelated-person cap and minimum three-month stays, alongside employer accommodation duties. These historical conditions and allegations should not be confused with a final verdict or later housing-rule changes.
