What Is Singapore PR?
Singapore permanent residence is an immigration status that permits ongoing residence in Singapore. It is not citizenship: a PR retains foreign nationality and does not obtain a Singapore passport simply by becoming a PR. Residents aged 15 or above receive the blue Singapore identity card.
PRs may work without a work pass, although professional registration and licensing rules continue to apply. An Entry Permit records the grant of residence; a valid Re-Entry Permit is needed for travel abroad and return as a PR. The expiry of an REP is not the same thing as an ordinary expiry date for residence while remaining in Singapore.
| Status | Purpose | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| PR | Permanent residence | Separate from citizenship and travel permission |
| Employment Pass / S Pass | Employment-related permission | Holding it does not automatically grant PR |
| LTVP | Residence for an approved period | A separate route and assessment |
| REP | Retaining PR while travelling | Renewal and overseas-expiry rules apply |

Who Can Apply for Singapore PR?
Begin with an eligible route, then prepare evidence for ICA’s assessment. A qualifying route allows an application; it does not establish a right to approval. Use the sponsor or applicant login appropriate to the route.
| Route | Eligibility | Who submits |
|---|---|---|
| Spouse | Spouse of a Singapore citizen or PR | Citizen/PR spouse sponsors using Singpass |
| Child | Unmarried, under 21, born within a legal marriage or legally adopted by a citizen/PR | Citizen/PR parent sponsors |
| Aged parent | Parent of a Singapore citizen aged at least 21 | Citizen child sponsors; this is not a PR-parent sponsorship route |
| EP / S Pass holder | Working in Singapore on a valid qualifying pass | Applicant uses Singpass; employer sponsorship is not required |
| Student | Studying in Singapore; passed a national exam or in the Integrated Programme, as listed on ICA’s application page | Age 15+: Singpass; under 15: non-Singpass route. See the student FAQ for an official-source discrepancy |
| Investor | Global Investor Programme criteria | Follow EDB’s separate GIP process |

Singapore PR Conditions and Assessment
ICA examines an applicant’s connections with Singaporeans, economic contribution, qualifications, age, family circumstances and time living in Singapore. These support its assessment of contribution, integration and the intention to build a long-term home here. The published PR criteria do not provide a universal salary cutoff, a public points calculator or a guaranteed approval formula.
The evidence should explain the real circumstances consistently. Link an employment history to actual payslips and company records, support family relationships with civil documents, and explain material changes. These are preparation steps, not promises that a higher salary, donation, company purchase or cover letter will secure PR.
| Check | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| Correct route | Confirm the required sponsor, family relationship, student status or valid EP/S Pass |
| Identity | Passport with at least six months remaining at submission; consistent names and identifiers |
| Residence and family | Actual Singapore residential address and complete parents/siblings information |
| Evidence | Current employment and salary records, applicable qualifications and family documents |
| Declarations | Every included applicant reviews the case and provides the required declaration |

How to Apply: Step by Step
Prepare the evidence before creating the online draft. The common application workflow gives seven days for particulars and documents, followed by seven days for review, declarations and payment. If the deadline passes without completed submission and payment, the draft and its uploads are removed.
- Confirm the route and family members to include; check passports and Singapore address.
- Arrange Singpass for eligible applicants; ICA provides the specified credentials for applicants who cannot use Singpass.
- Enter all intended applicants and products before starting the draft. A change at draft stage requires a replacement draft.
- Complete particulars and upload the generated case-specific document list within the first seven days.
- Have every included applicant review and declare, then pay and submit during the next seven days.
- Save the acknowledgement and receipt; download the submitted application within seven days.
- Monitor MyICA and email, update material changes, and respond to clarification deadlines.
- If approved, follow the IPA and case instructions, complete formalities, and collect the IC where applicable.

PR Processing Time and Status
ICA’s normal processing estimate is six months when the required evidence is complete and in order. Some cases take longer. Waiting beyond six months is not evidence of either approval or rejection, and an agency cannot promise a faster ICA decision.
Use MyICA or the applicable ICA login to check the case. New applications receive email outcomes; the application page retains postal arrangements for pre-26 June 2024 cases. Save an outcome letter within two months of issue. Do not submit a duplicate PR case while the first is pending.
| Record | Access period / action |
|---|---|
| Submitted application PDF | Download within seven days of submission |
| Outcome letter | Available online for up to two months from issuance |
| Clarification request | Respond by the date on ICA’s notification; an extension request is not approval |
| Appeal | Case-dependent processing time, not the normal PR application estimate |

Singapore PR Grants and Approval-Rate Data, 2021–2025
The annual figures below are people granted permanent residence in each full calendar year, as reported in the SingStat dataset sourced from ICA. They are not percentages of applications approved.
The cited official sources do not provide a matching annual count of applications assessed or a nationwide approval rate for each of 2021–2025. The rate column therefore records this data gap rather than an estimate. NPTD reports about 34,600 PR grants per year on average over these five years; that average is also a count, not a rate.
| Year | People granted PR | Overall approval rate |

PR Rejected: Five Next Steps
Start with the outcome letter and the facts that have changed. ICA does not release its detailed individual assessment. The following are practical options to review; they are not five official programmes or guaranteed ways to secure PR.
| Option | When it is relevant | Concrete action |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Evidence-based appeal | The application was rejected within the last twelve months and relevant new information exists | Explain the change and attach proof through the official appeal service; use the original sponsor/main applicant login |
| 2. Fresh application after material change | A new submission is appropriate to the current circumstances | Compare the new evidence with the previous case. ICA sets no numerical attempt cap; unchanged evidence leads to the same outcome |
| 3. Audit documents and correct inconsistencies | Missing, outdated or inconsistent evidence needs correction | Reconcile passport/name records, family documents, payslips, employer letters and translations; explain rather than invent missing records |
| 4. Review an existing eligible route | The family, study or employment circumstances have genuinely changed | Check the actual legal category and sponsor. Consider another route only when its criteria are already satisfied; investments alone do not bypass EDB assessment |
| 5. Maintain lawful stay and plan the next filing | There is no useful new evidence yet, or a work/family pass needs attention | Keep the current pass valid, monitor job and family changes, and choose a later evidence-backed submission rather than repeating an unchanged case |

Documents Required for PR
The official checklist distinguishes each applicant, a non-applying spouse and the sponsor. “Where applicable” matters: not every row is needed in every case. The online service may request additional evidence based on the entered information. The table below preserves the checklist’s document categories and role distinctions.
Prepare certified true copies and accepted official English translations for non-English documents. ICA accepts the issuing country’s embassy translations; translations by a notary in Singapore or the issuing country; or private translations attested by that embassy or notarised by such a notary. ICA does not endorse a private translation company.
| Document / condition | Each applicant | Non-applying spouse | Sponsor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recent colour photo, 400 × 514, white background and full face; customary headgear must not cover features | Where applicable | Not required | Not required |

Extra Documents for Aged-Parent Cases
The checklist adds records for non-applying children in aged-parent applications. Keep these separate from the main applicant/spouse/sponsor columns above. ICA can request other evidence beyond the checklist.
| Non-applying child record | When required |
|---|---|
| Birth certificate/household register | Where the birth was not registered in Singapore |
| Latest income-tax assessment/receipt | Where working overseas |
| Most recent one-month payslip | Where applicable |

PR Application Fees
Government fees are separate from translation, certification, medical checks and professional document support. ICA’s application page lists S$100 for each application, with document-issue charges at formalities. Do not assume one family submission means a single flat charge for everyone; check the amount generated for the case.
For illustration, one S$100 application plus one Entry Permit, a five-year REP and one IC adds to S$220 in the listed charges. That arithmetic is not an all-inclusive package or a quote for every family: issued documents, REP duration and any other notified charges determine the payable sum. All ICA fees are non-refundable.
| Item | Published amount | When / fee type |
|---|---|---|
| Apex document support (main applicant) | S$1,500 | Professional service fee; ICA charges excluded |
| Apex document support (spouse / child) | S$500 per person | Professional service fee; ICA charges excluded |
| PR processing fee | S$100 | At application; government fee |
| Entry Permit | S$20 | At formalities |
| Five-year REP | S$50 | General REP charge is S$10 per approved year or part-year |
| Singapore IC | S$50 | At formalities, as applicable |
| Translation, certification, medical checks | Provider quotation | Separate third-party costs |
Government sources: ICA PR application ↗ · ICA REP rules ↗
After Approval: Formalities, NS and REP
The IPA sets conditions; PR is granted after those conditions and formalities are completed. Follow the instructions inside the case, including any appointment and health declaration. For current cases, an assigned appointment can be checked or changed online. Save the Entry Permit record; arrange IC collection within the applicable three-month window after formalities.
Plan male family members’ NS responsibilities before accepting PR. PTS principal applicants have an administrative exemption, while male students and parent-sponsored sons generally register at 16½ and face enlistment from 18. University studies are not a basis for deferment. Failure to discharge NS liabilities can affect the individual’s and family’s future immigration matters; consult CMPB about the exact case.
Since 1 December 2025, a PR first outside Singapore without a valid REP must apply within 180 days. Returning within that period does not remove this duty. A timely case preserves PR while pending; rejection causes loss the day after its outcome is sent. Missing the deadline also causes loss, requiring a fresh PR application. Renew before travel rather than relying on this remedial process.

PR status and eligibility6 questions
How soon can a Singapore PR apply for Singapore citizenship after being granted Singapore PR status?
The ordinary adult route requires at least two years as a PR and age 21 or above. Spouse, student and aged-parent routes have their own conditions. Two years of PR alone is not an automatic entitlement to citizenship.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
What is Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
Permanent residence is an immigration status allowing ongoing residence in Singapore. An REP is needed to leave and return as a PR. PR is different from citizenship and does not provide a Singapore passport.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) and what are the eligibility criteria for PR application?
ICA lists eligible spouses, qualifying unmarried children, aged parents of adult citizens, EP/S Pass holders, eligible students and the investor route. Select the correct category and submit through the official service; investor applications follow EDB’s GIP process.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can I apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) if my residential address is not within Singapore?
ICA’s PR application FAQ requires a residential address in Singapore. Do not substitute an invented address.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Is there an age limit for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) applications/ applicants?
ICA does not set one overall age ceiling for submitting PR applications. Individual categories still impose their own ages, such as children under 21 and adult citizen sponsors. Age is also an assessment factor.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is the difference between Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) and Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)?
LTVP authorises stay for a defined period; PR grants permanent residence status. Their eligibility, conditions and travel arrangements differ, so an LTVP does not itself become PR.

Family, students and investors18 questions
Can I sponsor my children for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
A citizen or PR may sponsor an unmarried child younger than 21 who was born within a legal marriage or legally adopted. Prepare the relevant birth, adoption and family evidence.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I sponsor my parent(s) for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
The aged-parent sponsorship category is for a Singapore citizen aged at least 21. A PR does not qualify as the sponsor under that category simply by holding PR.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
When can my child submit his/her Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application as a student?
The current ICA application page lists students studying locally who passed a national exam or are in the Integrated Programme. This linked FAQ additionally mentions more than two years of residence and a valid immigration pass. As these official descriptions differ, check your circumstances with ICA before filing; do not treat the FAQ’s extra condition as an unqualified rule for every student.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Who can apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) under the Global Investor Programme (GIP)?
ICA’s FAQ lists S$10 million in a new or expanded business, S$25 million in a GIP-selected fund, or a Singapore single-family office managing at least S$200 million. These figures are only part of the GIP conditions; EDB’s current detailed criteria, deployment requirements and application process must also be satisfied.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can I include my dependant(s) in my Singapore PR application after I have submitted it?
Eligible dependants can be added to a submitted case using Add Applicant(s) in its summary. Enter through MyICA or the case’s non-Singpass reference login. This differs from adding applicants to an existing draft, where a replacement draft is required.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I omit parents and siblings’ details for my Permanent Residence application as they reside overseas?
Their overseas residence does not remove the requirement to provide parents’ and siblings’ information for ICA’s assessment.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I choose for the education level for my child's PR application if my child is studying in an international school?
Use the equivalent education stage: international-school Grades 1–6 correspond to primary education without PSLE/PSPE; kindergarten, infant care and childcare correspond to preschool.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can my child attend school if his/ her Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application is pending?
A pending PR case does not prevent education. A foreign child can attend with a valid Student’s Pass where that is the required immigration permission.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What pass should the spouse of a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) apply for?
An eligible spouse may apply for ICA’s LTVP with the PR spouse as sponsor. That is a separate application with its own assessment and conditions.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How can I apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) under the Global Investor Programme (GIP)?
Follow EDB’s Global Investor Programme page and its prescribed forms, business/investment assessment and filing process, rather than assuming an ordinary employment-based PR submission is the GIP process.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Do I need to register my overseas marriage when applying for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
Declare every marriage, including customary marriages, in the PR form. This disclosure requirement is distinct from a claim that every overseas marriage must first be registered again in Singapore.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Will my low income affect the Singapore PR application for my spouse?
ICA considers each case as a whole under the prevailing criteria. This FAQ does not provide a fixed spouse-PR salary cutoff or an automatic decision from income alone.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Who can I sponsor for Singapore Permanent Residence under my Global Investor Programme application?
The investor may include a spouse and unmarried children younger than 21 for PR, with NS liability for male dependants. Parents, parents-in-law and older children cannot receive sponsored PR under that GIP family inclusion; ICA’s FAQ describes a renewable five-year LTVP tied to the investor’s REP instead, subject to its conditions.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I apply Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) for my dependant(s) if I am not working in Singapore?
ICA’s FAQ allows an eligible sponsor to lodge a dependant’s PR application even when the sponsor is not working locally. The relevant family eligibility and overall assessment still apply.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Will my son's PR application be affected if he is also applying for Student’s Pass?
The Student’s Pass and PR applications are processed separately. Applying for the Student’s Pass does not itself affect the PR case.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Will my dependant’s PR status under my sponsorship be affected if I applied for and obtained Singapore citizenship subsequently?
If the sponsor obtains citizenship separately, this does not by itself change the existing PR status of the sponsored dependants.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What can the alternative sponsor do?
It is another possible sponsor identified by ICA. Nomination lets ICA consider available sponsorship options without seeking a further consent at that step; it does not guarantee approval.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Does nominating an alternative sponsor guarantee a successful outcome for my PR application?
No. Nomination provides another sponsorship option for ICA’s assessment; the overall application still needs to qualify on its merits.

Employment and work passes5 questions
Do I need to apply for a work pass if I am a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) seeking employment?
A PR can work without an EP, S Pass or other work pass. Regulated professions still require the relevant professional registration and other practice conditions, for example in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, architecture or law.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Would my PR application be affected if my work pass has been terminated?
Yes for a PTS application: holding a valid EP or S Pass is a prerequisite. Report employment changes and ensure any continued stay has its own valid immigration basis.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Do I need an employer's sponsorship to apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
Employer sponsorship is not required. This is separate from providing employment evidence and meeting the chosen application category.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) immediately after working here?
An EP or S Pass holder working in Singapore may submit a PR case for consideration. The ability to file does not guarantee approval or remove the need for the available employment documents.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) be self-employed person?
A PR may be self-employed. Business registration, tax and regulated-profession obligations remain applicable to the actual activity.

Documents and photographs14 questions
Can I apply for PR if my passport is expiring?
At submission, the passport must have at least six months remaining. An application without a valid passport, or with less than that remaining validity, will be rejected.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Do I need to submit any supporting documents to ICA to support my Singapore PR application?
The online system generates requirements from the applicant information and chosen category. Prepare the official PR checklist and upload the documents requested for your case; ICA may ask for more later.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I apply Singapore PR for my spouse or children if they do not have a valid passport?
Each included spouse or child needs a travel document with at least six months remaining when the application is submitted. Without it, the case will be rejected.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I apply for Singapore PR if I have been employed for less than 6 months?
Provide the current payslips for the actual period you have worked at that company. Do not fabricate missing months; the rest of the case still follows ICA’s requirements.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can a passport be used as an Identity Card when applying for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
The checklist’s identity-card item refers to a separate national identity document. If your country has not issued one to you, upload a written explanation in the document section instead of treating the passport as that separate document.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) for my parent(s) without a birth certificate?
Supply other documentary evidence establishing the parent-child relationship if the birth certificate cannot be produced. ICA evaluates whether the replacement evidence is sufficient.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I apply Singapore Permanent Residence for my spouse without producing the marriage certificate?
A marriage certificate is required to substantiate a spouse-based application. Resolve unavailable documents through ICA’s documentary-evidence process rather than leaving the relationship unsupported.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I submit my Singapore PR application without the testimonials from my previous employer?
A previous employer’s testimonial is not a mandatory prerequisite for a PR application. Provide the required employment evidence without inventing a recommendation.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What does Identity Card in the Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) Document Checklist refer to?
It means the identity document issued to the applicant in the relevant home country or place, rather than a Singapore PR blue IC that a first-time applicant has not yet received.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How can I resize my passport photograph for my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application?
Use a photo editor that preserves ICA’s photo requirements. The PR checklist specifies a recent colour, white-background, full-face image at 400 × 514 pixels; permitted customary religious/ethnic headgear must leave facial features visible. Check the upload limits in the service.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What are the documents required to apply for PR?
After applicant details and the requested immigration product are entered, the service displays the case-specific required documents. Use that list alongside the PR checklist.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why am I unable to upload documents when applying through my mobile phone?
Check whether the browser has access to the phone’s files and photos. Grant the necessary access yourself and retry with documents meeting the service’s format limits.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do if I encounter an error when I upload photo image for my PR application?
Check the displayed error. The shared service accepts jpg/jpeg/heic/heif/png, prefers 400 × 514 pixels, and caps the image at 8MB. Passing upload validation does not mean the photograph has passed ICA’s substantive photo requirements.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
I am not able to provide the required document(s) for the PR application. Can I provide other documents in place of them?
An alternative should come from the same issuing authority and contain equivalent information. If no such document is available, upload a written explanation; acceptance remains for ICA to decide.

How do I make an appointment to submit my application for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
PR applications are lodged through ICA’s online service. A later appointment for approval formalities is a separate step and is not a submission appointment.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What can I do if the person I am applying for does not have a valid email address?
With that person’s consent, use a trusted person’s address or route communications through the sponsor’s email. It will receive instructions and progress updates, so ensure access and consent are clear.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I retrieve the saved draft for my PR application?
Return to ICA’s service using the original login. The initial draft is available for seven days from creation; complete the first stage within that period and the declarations/payment stage within the following seven days. Check the precise deadline shown in the service.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How much time do I have to complete my PR application?
Stage one gives seven days from draft creation for particulars and document uploads. Stage two gives the next seven days for review, declarations, payment and submission. Missing the fourteen-day window removes the draft and uploaded material.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I extend my online draft application for PR before it expires?
The published instructions require completion and payment within the fourteen-day window. After the draft is removed, begin a new application; do not assume an extension has been granted.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Who can edit the details of the PR application if an alternative sponsor is nominated?
For applications from 26 June 2024, only the original sponsor makes edits; the alternative sponsor cannot edit the case.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I add a new applicant and/or product if my application for PR is at the draft stage?
Choose all intended applicants and products before starting. An existing draft cannot add another applicant or product; delete that draft and start again for the revised combination. This draft rule differs from the add-dependant feature for an already submitted PR case.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I save the application for PR as draft and complete the application at another time?
Yes, within the two-stage deadline: seven days for particulars/documents, then seven for declarations and payment. Returning to the service retrieves the saved draft; keep to its displayed expiry.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why am I unable to amend my name or surname/ family name in the application form for PR?
An NRIC holder must first correct the underlying IC record using ICA’s IC service before continuing the immigration application. Do not work around a locked source field by supplying inconsistent names elsewhere.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I edit my PR application when I'm at the payment page?
Once the final declaration has been submitted, the application is no longer editable through that draft workflow. Review all details before declaring.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I submit a new application for PR if I had submitted an application previously?
A person cannot have another pending application for the same product. The common FAQ specifically includes pre-26 June 2024 cases. A genuinely new person or different product follows its own eligibility and online process.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do if I want to make edits to my PR application details before submitting my declaration?
The main applicant or sponsor uses Edit. An included person who needs a correction should ask that main applicant or sponsor to make it before the declaration.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Where can I view details of my submitted application for PR?
For applications from 26 June 2024, the submitted application PDF is downloadable for seven days after submission. Download it promptly; this differs from the two-month outcome-letter window.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I retrieve a PDF copy of my application details for PR after seven days from the date of submission?
The published download period is seven days after submission for cases filed from 26 June 2024. It does not offer an ordinary online download after that period, so keep a local copy at submission.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I submit my PR application over the counter if I do not have access to internet?
The application must still be online. ICA suggests using a location with internet access; ensure that access to Singpass and sensitive documents remains under the applicant’s control.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Fees and payment6 questions
Was my Singapore PR application submitted successfully if I did not get to the payment page?
No. Retrieve the case and finish its payment. A successful payment confirmation appears on screen and a receipt is emailed to the address registered for the application.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I know if my application for PR has been submitted successfully?
Look for both the completed payment and the submission acknowledgement page/email. Save the application copy while it is available and use the status-enquiry function to check the case later.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Must I make payment immediately upon submission of the PR application?
Only a successfully paid case is treated as submitted and processed. If the draft deadline expires before payment, the application and uploads are removed and a new application is needed.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Is the application fee for PR refundable?
Once the case is submitted and paid, the processing charge is not refunded whatever the decision. Withdrawal does not turn that payment into a credit for another case.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What are the available payment modes for PR application?
Options include Visa/Mastercard debit or credit cards, AMEX, Singapore internet banking with DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB or Standard Chartered, and PayNow, subject to the choices displayed for the transaction.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What are the fees involved for my PR application(s)?
The PR page lists S$100 at application and, at formalities, S$20 for the Entry Permit, S$50 for a five-year REP and S$50 for the IC. Actual charges follow the documents issued and ICA’s payment instructions; professional assistance and translation are separate costs.

Pending cases and updates16 questions
What is the processing time for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) applications?
A complete case normally takes around six months; complex cases can take longer. ICA notifies the main applicant or sponsor, and status can be checked online. Do not lodge another PR application for the same person while a case is pending.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I update my latest address/ marital status/ qualification in my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application?
Work-pass addresses must first be updated with the source agency, such as MOM; ICA LTVP holders use its address-update route. Update qualifications or marital status in the case summary. Singpass users enter through MyICA; non-Singpass users use the submitted reference credentials.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Must I inform ICA if I renew my passport while my Singapore PR application is pending?
Yes. Open the submitted case and update its information through MyICA, or the non-Singpass login using the reference ID. This concerns the pending application, not an REP transfer for someone already holding PR.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How may I amend my particulars which was wrongly keyed in when applying for Singapore PR?
Use the case-summary update function, with Singpass or the non-Singpass reference login. If the particular field cannot be changed there, send a request through ICA’s PR enquiry form while the case is being processed.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I update my latest employment or salary information for PR application?
Update employment and salary in the submitted case’s information-update function. Use MyICA with Singpass, or the reference-ID route for a non-Singpass case, and retain evidence of the change.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I leave Singapore while waiting for the outcome of my Singapore Permanent Residence application?
Applicants may travel while waiting. Approval still requires a return to Singapore to complete the applicable formalities, and travel must comply with the person’s existing entry and pass conditions.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I check my Permanent Residence (PR) application status?
Use MyICA with a valid Singpass, or ICA’s non-Singpass route for eligible applicants under 15. Download the outcome within two months of release. The FAQ specifically says that applicants whose Singpass has been invalidated and who no longer hold a valid pass have a rejected case; contact ICA if your own status is unclear.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Will I need to furnish additional documents after I have submitted my Singapore PR application?
ICA sends a clarification notification through its service when further evidence is needed. Check the case dashboard and respond by the specified deadline.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Who can I contact for enquiries related to my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application?
Use ICA’s official PR enquiry form and include the information it requests to identify your case.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do if I did not receive the outcome of my PR application by post?
Outcomes may be communicated by email or post depending on the filing period. Check MyICA and the registered email, including junk folders; use ICA’s PR enquiry form for missing notifications. Current applications normally receive email notification.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Are there any interviews required for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) applications?
ICA will notify the applicant or sponsor if further information, documents or a required follow-up is needed. The FAQ does not state that every PR applicant must attend an interview.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What can I do if I cannot change my address details in the application form for PR?
For a citizen/PR sponsor whose form uses ICA’s registered address, update that source record through the address-change service: report the address, verify the mailed PIN, then attach the mailed address label to the IC. LTVP holders receive no IC sticker. Work-pass holders follow the relevant source agency.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is the processing time for my PR application?
The common FAQ gives normal single-product estimates of six months for PR, twelve months for citizenship and six weeks for LTVP, for applications from 26 June 2024. Do not assume a combined case follows the shortest time. Outcomes arrive by email; no duplicate application is accepted while the same product is pending.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What can I do if I have not received any response on my extension request for clarification?
Before the original clarification deadline, continue submitting relevant available information. After it expires, the response function is unavailable until ICA decides the extension request. A pending extension request is not an automatic extension.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What happens if I did not submit my response to the clarification request for my PR application by the expiry date?
ICA can assess the application using the information already held if no response arrives by the clarification deadline.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why am I unable submit my response to the clarification request for my PR application?
The clarification response closes after its deadline. Follow the case’s extension or enquiry instructions rather than assuming another channel automatically satisfies the original deadline.

Outcomes, rejection and appeals16 questions
How can I appeal if my PR application is rejected or unsuccessful?
Use ICA’s appeal service within 12 months of the rejection-letter date. The original sponsor signs in with Singpass; where no sponsor existed, the main applicant submits. An original application without Singpass must use its original email address.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do if my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application is unsuccessful?
An appeal should explain relevant new circumstances or evidence. The filing window runs for 12 months from the application rejection letter. ICA states that unchanged circumstances and repeated evidence produce the same outcome; another appeal needs additional or updated information.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why is my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application unsuccessful or rejected?
ICA does not disclose its detailed individual assessment. It considers integration, family connections, contribution, residence and other factors. A fresh case can be considered when evidence or circumstances materially change; sending the same unchanged case does not improve its outcome.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I reinstate my Singapore PR application after withdrawing it?
A withdrawn case cannot be reactivated. Applying again requires a fresh submission, and the old processing payment cannot be refunded or transferred.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How many times can I apply for Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
ICA sets no numerical cap on attempts, but advises a further application only after a substantial change from the last case. Submit a fresh online application and pay its non-refundable processing fee.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why is my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application “withdrawn"?
Ask ICA through its PR enquiry form and supply the applicant’s name, identification number and application reference as requested. The status alone does not reveal a reason that an adviser can infer.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How long will the PR application outcome letter/ result be available online?
Save the letter within two months after it is issued, using MyICA or the applicable non-Singpass service. Once that access period ends, the online view/download option is removed.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I still withdraw or cancel my application for PR after receiving an outcome?
ICA says that an approved case not taken through the required steps will be treated as withdrawn after its approval-validity period. For a linked family case or an active request, notify ICA rather than assuming there are no effects on other applicants.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How can I withdraw my application for PR?
For a case filed from 26 June 2024, enter ICA’s service and use Withdraw Applicants. A sponsored case must be handled through the sponsor. Paid processing fees cannot be refunded or transferred.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I withdraw my application for PR without going through my sponsor?
For a sponsored case filed from 26 June 2024, ICA requires withdrawal or cancellation through the sponsor in its service.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Who can submit the appeal for my rejected Singapore Citizenship, Permanent Residence or Long-Term Visit Pass?
The original sponsor submits with Singpass. With no sponsor, the main applicant submits. An original non-Singpass case must use its original email identity.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I submit a new appeal for PR if I currently have a pending application?
A new appeal for the same status cannot be filed while that person has a pending application for it. Different applicants or products must separately meet their filing conditions.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How can I check the status of my PR appeal?
ICA sends a digital notification when the appeal status changes. Check the case through MyICA or the official appeal service for the status and decision.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How can I withdraw my appeal for PR?
Open the appeal service and use Withdraw Appeal while the appeal is pending.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is the processing time for my PR appeal?
ICA publishes no single fixed turnaround for all appeals. Timing depends on the case and further documentary evidence may be requested.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why did I encounter an error when trying to submit my PR appeal?
Check the rejection date is within the last twelve months and that the correct original sponsor/main applicant is logging in. Match the original email for a non-Singpass filing.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Approval and formalities23 questions
How do I download/ retrieve Form 5 or Form 5A?
These are Entry Permit records issued after PR formalities. Sign in to MyICA and look under MyTransaction, then Entry Permit, to retrieve the details.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do after my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application is approved?
Read the IPA and the case-specific instructions in ICA’s service, complete every condition, and attend any required appointment with the relevant applicants and sponsor. PR is granted after the required formalities, rather than merely on receipt of the IPA.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I find out the date of issuance for my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) status?
Check the Entry Permit issued when formalities were completed. Its record can also be retrieved using Singpass under MyICA, MyTransaction, Entry Permit.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is the Form 5 or Form 5A?
They identify the Entry Permit issued after a successful applicant completes PR formalities. They are not a substitute for submitting a new PR application online.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I convert my foreign driving license to a Singapore driving license?
To drive or continue driving in Singapore after becoming a PR, follow the foreign-licence conversion procedure administered by the Singapore Police.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What happens if a PR applicant applying with his family chooses not to complete formalities?
The main applicant should inform ICA using the PR enquiry form, explaining the change. ICA will communicate its decision; do not assume other family outcomes remain unaffected without notifying it.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What happens to my work pass after I become a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)?
The work pass is taken for cancellation at completion of PR formalities. This happens when PR is granted, rather than merely when the IPA arrives. Check the separate arrangements for accompanying family passes.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
When can I collect my Identity Card after completion of formalities for Singapore PR application?
An IC-collection appointment can be made one week after formalities, subject to available slots. For applications from 26 June 2024, retrieve the issue date from the service for booking and collect within three months of completing formalities. Older applications use the earlier booking instructions.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What documents should I bring for the completion of Permanent Residence (PR) formalities?
For a case filed from 26 June 2024, read the formalities instructions inside ICA’s service. Earlier applicants use their IPA’s document and administrative requirements. Follow the instructions for the actual case rather than a generic appointment checklist.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What happens to my current work pass after my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) application is approved?
ICA says the EP is cancelled once PR formalities are completed. Its FAQ states that MOM-issued family DPs/LTVPs are not automatically cancelled in that process. Arrange an appropriate immigration pass if family members will stay, and coordinate cancellation with the employer or EA before expiry to avoid overstaying. They do not automatically gain PR.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Why do I need to book an appointment online for the completion of Singapore PR formalities?
For cases filed from 26 June 2024, ICA assigns an appointment where an in-person visit is required; view it in the service and use the appointment system if a change is needed. Earlier applicants book themselves. Arriving without an appointment may mean no service when slots are full.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Is my child required to produce his/ her health declaration for the completion of PR formalities?
Every successful applicant, including children, must declare health information to CPF Board for the formalities. Use ICA’s instructions and CPF’s PR-applicant health-declaration service; the healthcare hotline is 1800-222-3399.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do if I cannot complete PR formalities within the period stated in my IPA letter?
For applications from 26 June 2024, the main applicant or sponsor uses View Details, Proceed to Complete Formalities, then Request for Extension. Older cases use the PR enquiry form. An extension needs ICA’s agreement; submitting a request does not itself extend the deadline.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I use the Singapore PR In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter to return to Singapore?
No. An IPA is not a guarantee of admission. Entry still depends on the prevailing requirements and ICA’s checkpoint assessment.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is the purpose of EP152 form?
EP152 confirms that the applicant remains employed by the company declared in the PR application. It is an employment confirmation used in PR formalities, not an EP application form.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What should I do if my employer refuses to sign the EP152 when my PR application has been approved?
ICA lists a valid EP/S Pass, the most recent six months of payslips, and an employment letter or Annex A dated within two weeks of the ICA appointment as alternative employment evidence. Supply the combination requested and check the case instructions.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
I was offered another product which I did not apply for. Is my application considered successful?
For a case filed from 26 June 2024, an assessed alternative offer proceeds to IPA after acceptance and payment. It does not mean that the originally requested product was granted; read which status the offer covers.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Would I be granted more than one product if I applied for more than one?
ICA grants only the product for which it assesses the person eligible. Selecting several products does not create an entitlement to all of them.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can I complete PR formalities without an appointment?
Attendance is by appointment. Reschedule in ICA’s service within the IPA’s validity if necessary.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What if I am late for formalities?
Applicants arriving on time receive priority, so lateness can mean a longer wait. Arrive at the assigned time.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
How do I reschedule formalities?
Use ICA’s online appointment service when the allocated slot is unsuitable; ensure the new date remains within the allowed formalities period.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Where do I ask for a formalities extension?
For filings from 26 June 2024, request an extension inside the formalities section of the case dashboard. Earlier PR cases use the PR enquiry form. ICA must approve the request.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Is a medical report older than three months accepted?
ICA’s shared formalities FAQ requires a fresh examination and replacement report.

National Service3 questions
Do Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs) need to serve National Service (NS)?
Male citizens and PRs are generally liable unless exempt. PTS principal PR applicants are administratively exempt, but male student-route applicants and sons obtaining PR through parents are liable: registration at 16½ and enlistment from 18. Eligible pre-university studies may be completed; university study is not a deferment basis. Former citizens/PRs may remain liable regardless of the new route. Confirm individual cases with CMPB.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is my National Service Liability as a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)?
Male PRs are subject to the Enlistment Act unless an exemption applies. Check the route of PR grant and the detailed PTS/student/parent-sponsored distinctions in the NS section; obtain individual confirmation from CMPB.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Who can I contact for enquiries related to National Service liability/exemption matters?
Direct individual NS-liability and exemption questions to CMPB through the NS portal or its official contact, [email protected].

REP, travel and retaining PR22 questions
Will my permanent residency be affected if I divorce the spouse who sponsored my Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) application?
Divorce does not itself cancel PR, nor must a divorced person renounce PR because the former spouse does. Give ICA the final divorce and any care/control records for its files, through its official REP contact. REP renewal may be requested during the three months before expiry and is assessed individually.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
Can PRs still travel with a passport which is expiring in 6 months' time or less?
For Singapore clearance, the passport must remain valid and the REP must be in order. Other destinations and airlines can impose longer passport-validity requirements. Renew an expiring foreign passport through its issuing authority, then transfer the valid REP online, without a transfer fee. Check current entry/health rules. For overseas REP expiry, use the post-1 December 2025 rules below rather than assuming immediate PR loss.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
What is the validity period of Singapore Permanent Residence (PR)?
PR permits indefinite residence in Singapore; its status is distinct from an REP’s expiry date. Travel abroad requires a valid REP. Remaining in Singapore when the REP expires does not itself remove PR, while overseas expiry is governed by the current 180-day application rules and the application outcome.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can I re-apply Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) after I renounced/ lost my Singapore PR status?
A new PR application is assessed on the circumstances at that time. If approved, ICA may require previously withdrawn CPF savings to be restored with interest.
Government sources: Government reference ↗
What is my Singapore Permanent Residence (PR) status and how do I verify my PR status?
Use the REP service with Singpass to check validity and obtain a copy. For uncertainty about your status, use ICA’s REP enquiry channel. Apply the current overseas-expiry rules; the absence of a current REP while remaining in Singapore is a different situation.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Entry Permit and REP: what is the difference?
The Entry Permit authorises the initial entry and residence. The REP is time-limited permission supporting overseas travel and return as a PR. Here EP means Entry Permit, not MOM’s Employment Pass.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
How do I obtain an REP?
Apply through MyICA or its app. Renew online during the three months before expiry, preferably before travel.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Do the new rules remove PR from someone without an old Entry Permit?
No. ICA says existing PRs remain recognised and Entry Permits were issued to all PRs before December 2025.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Does REP expiry while I remain in Singapore remove PR?
No, remaining in Singapore retains PR. Arrange a new REP before leaving.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
What if I return before my current REP expires?
PR is retained in that situation. Renew in good time for future journeys.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
What if the REP expires while I am overseas?
Since 1 December 2025, apply within 180 days of first being outside Singapore without a valid REP. A timely application preserves PR pending its outcome. Before that date, the rules involved immediate loss on overseas expiry and a one-month reinstatement window.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Does returning within 180 days remove the need to apply?
Yes. Returning does not stop the application deadline. Without timely filing, PR is lost; rejection of a timely application also leads to loss.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can I seek entry after my REP expires overseas?
During the prescribed 180 days, entry remains subject to border and health requirements. PR retention does not guarantee admission.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Does a timely replacement REP application preserve PR?
PR continues pending the outcome. Approval retains it; rejection causes loss the day after the outcome is sent.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
What if REP is rejected after entry on PRSEP?
PR is lost the day after the outcome is sent; a Visit Pass is issued on loss.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
What is the PR Single-Entry Pass?
Within the prescribed period, ICA may issue PRSEP for one entry on its stated date. The Entry Permit governs residence. PRSEP does not replace the obligation to file for REP on time.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can entry still be refused during the 180-day period?
Yes. Admission still depends on prevailing border and health rules; any PRSEP is subject to them.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can a late REP application revive lost PR?
Missing the window causes PR loss after its final day. A fresh PR application is then required.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can I appeal after missing the 180-day window?
The revision FAQ says no reinstatement appeals are accepted for that failure. Apply afresh for PR instead.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
How do I regain status after a rejected replacement REP?
A new PR application is required; the rejection causes status loss on the day after notification is sent.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Can an REP rejection be appealed to retain this PR status?
The revision FAQ directs the former PR to a fresh PR application after status loss, rather than retention through an REP appeal.
Government sources: Government reference ↗ · Government reference ↗
Will ICA notify me if I lose PR?
ICA sends a loss-of-status notification. Renew before travel to reduce that risk.
