Shipping Companies

Shipping exemptions depend on the statutory category of income and vessel or approval conditions.

Source checked · 11 October 2026

Key requirements

Section 13A provides exemptions for specified income from qualifying shipping activities, including certain Singapore-registered and foreign ship operations. Qualifying section 13A income is reported by amount and nature in the annual return and computation without an application to IRAS for that exemption. Section 13E concerns approved international shipping treatment and must be distinguished from automatic statutory categories. Ship disposal gains, charter income, ancillary activities and management services have specific conditions and dates; not every receipt of a shipping enterprise is exempt. Segregate exempt and taxable income and attribute expenses accordingly. Use the detailed tables rather than treating registration as a blanket exemption for all company income.
