Historical policy record
This article explains the CPF Advisory Panel’s 2015/2016 document. Amounts, account arrangements, projections and recommendations below belong to that publication, not current CPF entitlements, interest quotations or an investment offer. Check current CPF Board rules for an individual decision.
Longevity and purchasing power
CPF LIFE protects against outliving payouts, while level payments lose purchasing power as prices rise. The panel proposed another optional plan increasing 2% annually. Public views differed: some wanted rising income, some expected higher spending early and others valued certainty. A fixed 2% path is not linked directly to actual inflation.
Lower beginning, higher later
For equal premiums and start age, the report estimates the escalating plan begins around 20% lower than Standard. Its example compares Mr Eng’s rising payout with Mr De Souza’s level payout. The choice shifts income between retirement years rather than creating a free increase for the same payment stream.
Top-up or defer: worked alternatives
The illustrations show that around 30% more premium at age 65, or roughly four years of deferral, could raise the escalating starting amount to the comparator’s level, after which it continues rising. These are report-specific examples, not present personal quotations. Members should consider early expenses, other income, longevity and their desired payout profile together.
