Key actions in the bulletin
Develop the ability to assess online content rather than accepting persuasive messages at face value. Check credibility and context, recognise extremist narratives and avoid forwarding harmful or unverified material.
Use staff education and open discussion to reduce vulnerability to online manipulation, and establish appropriate reporting channels. The publication also features SGSecure community engagement and an anti-scam and harmonious-living event at Cochrane Recreation Centre in the May–July 2023 period.
S.U.R.E., digital champions and the interview
The August 2023 issue recommends checking understanding through assessments, regular staff training, NLB S.U.R.E. talks and a network of digital champions. In the interview, Dr Omer Ali Saifudeen discusses disinformation, AI and the need for critical thinking that keeps pace with persuasive tactics. He points to messaging apps, apparently harmless videos that vilify groups and the value of trusted real-world working relationships and reporting routes.
