Responding to Armed Attacks, Suspicious Items and Hazardous Agents

Historical document: dated proposals, examples and limits are identified in the sections below.

Key actions in the bulletin

In an armed attack, move away from danger, hide if escape is unsafe and report when safe. Building responders should secure command facilities and provide Police with plans, access information and a designated liaison.

If an item is suspicious because it is hidden, unusual for its location or has wires or other abnormal features, do not touch or investigate it. Keep people away, notify security and contact Police from a safe distance. The source advises avoiding communication devices within 15 metres of a suspected explosive item.

For suspected chemical or explosive incidents, evacuate away from danger and contact the authorities. Do not expose yourself to provide assistance; trained responders should manage hazardous materials.
