MDW Work Permit Key Facts: Application, Arrival and Ongoing Duties

Understand the employer-sponsored pass and the overview’s bond, insurance, orientation, health-check and levy steps.

Source reviewed:

Pass scope and applicant

The MDW Work Permit is for foreigners employed as domestic helpers in Singapore; both employer and helper must qualify. The employer, sponsor or authorised agent applies. The key-facts page states no minimum qualifying salary, renewable validity of up to two years depending on the bond, a monthly levy, and employer-provided medical and personal-accident insurance. This overview was last updated in October 2023; consult current transaction pages for present service and delivery instructions.

Before application and arrival

Review eligibility and the working-relationship guidance. First-time employers register for the Employers’ Orientation Programme. Check whether the Joint Income or Sponsorship Scheme applies, then obtain the IPA before bringing the helper in. Ensure current travel requirements are met, buy a bond for non-Malaysian helpers, and buy medical and accident insurance with online submission of details. Register first-time helpers for SIP once the arrival date is known.

After arrival

A first-time helper must attend SIP within seven days after arrival, excluding Sundays and public holidays. Arrange a medical examination with a Singapore-registered doctor within two weeks. Issue the permit and follow the Temporary Work Permit’s instruction on biometric registration, booking an appointment if needed. The historical overview states delivery four working days after registration or verification; check the newer detailed application instructions for the actual transaction.

Recurring and event-driven obligations

Pay levy monthly by GIRO and arrange medical examinations every six months. Update changed employer/helper information, apply for eligible levy waivers, renew before expiry, replace lost/stolen/damaged cards and cancel when employment ends.
