Apply early without losing remaining validity
The employer or appointed employment agent can renew through EP eService up to six months, or 180 days, before expiry. Renew before the expiry date; missing it means applying for a new pass. Early renewal does not forfeit the current pass’s remaining days, because the renewed validity starts when the current pass expires. Processing or an update normally takes 10 business days. Issuance costs S$100.
Eligibility, passport and primary care
The holder must meet the applicable eligibility requirements and have at least seven months of passport validity; the employer needs sufficient sector S Pass quota. A renewed pass can last up to three years but only to one month before passport expiry. Update the organisation’s preceding three years of turnover before applying. After the renewal notice, purchase a Primary Care Plan for workers in construction, marine shipyard or process sectors, or dormitories accommodating seven or more workers, and declare it in EP eService before renewal.
Complete issuance before expiry
When approved, print the 60-day IPA from EP eService and follow its issuance instructions before the current pass expires. The IPA’s validity does not permit delaying beyond current-pass expiry. Late issuance can lead to levy penalties, overstaying fines or both, and levy remains payable during that period. Complete and declare any required care-plan purchase before renewal.
Follow the card instructions
Print the notification letter after issuance. If it says to continue using the current card, the holder must retain it; returning it unnecessarily means paying S$65.40 including GST for replacement. If a new card is being issued, cut the old card in half and discard it. Help the holder set up Singpass and SGWorkPass to view the digital pass and employment information.
