How the source describes high blood pressure
The leaflet links high blood pressure to the heart forcefully pumping more blood because of blockages in blood vessels, and warns that untreated high blood pressure may cause heart attack or stroke. This is the leaflet’s simplified explanation.
The six signs illustrated
The six illustrated signs and symptoms are fainting, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, vomiting and nausea. The leaflet also encourages checking blood pressure levels rather than relying only on how someone feels.
All five numerical bands in the diagram
The English diagram labels the two numbers as systolic and diastolic. Its colour bands show: below 120 and below 80; 120–129 and below 80; 130–139 or 80–89; 140 or above or 90 or above; and 180 or above and/or 120 or above. The “or” and “and/or” connectors are important parts of the original, even though some translations omit them.
Three monitoring steps
The leaflet’s three steps are to check the blood pressure level, change to a healthier lifestyle, and see a doctor for regular check-ups.
Five prevention messages and source dates
It recommends sleeping well, exercising and maintaining a healthy body weight, quitting or cutting down alcohol and smoking, managing stress through talking/relaxation/breathing activities, and following a healthy diet that limits animal fats, red meat and coconut milk.
