Spouse LOC application
A spouse may work or operate a business with LOC. For a business, the spouse or appointed EA applies; for employment, the prospective employer applies. The service is free and most applications take four weeks. LOC lasts no later than DP expiry. DP must have at least three months left; renew first if shorter. Check status after three weeks and email for further-document requests if still pending.
EP/S Pass and WP alternatives
Non-spouse dependants need a work pass for employment. If obtaining EP or S Pass, cancel DP before issuance because stay then rests on that work pass. With WP, keep both WP and ONE-family DP; WP validity follows DP, and any nationality may apply. Six-monthly medical examination, security bond and pregnancy restrictions do not apply. Employer medical insurance is unnecessary only if existing coverage meets MOM’s prevailing mandatory minimum.
Unpaid charitable volunteering and source wording
Unpaid activities for a charitable purpose do not require a work pass. The source also includes a generic sentence saying a work pass is needed for employment; its specific spouse section expressly permits LOC and distinguishes non-spouse dependants, so the generic line must not be read as removing that spouse route.
