Two Business Partners Penalised for Under-reporting Income and GST

IRAS publication date:

Case and status

Unique International Agencies partners Koh Che Song and Yeo Soh Khim were convicted over S$2.4 million of net income omitted for YAs 2012–2016. Income tax undercharged was S$439,768 for Koh and S$28,157 for Yeo. Eleven GST quarters during 2011–2016 understated net tax by S$82,620.

Facts, amounts and outcome

Koh pleaded guilty to 16 proceeded charges and received S$26,000 fines and S$1,044,775 penalties. Yeo admitted six proceeded charges, but sentencing was adjourned to 7 September 2020. The August release therefore does not supply Yeo’s final sentence. The business manufactured glass-reinforced concrete; omitted business profits affected each partner’s tax separately.

Disclosure, reporting and rewards

IRAS encourages taxpayers to correct past errors and report suspected tax malpractices. The release says disclosure may be considered when deciding enforcement action; it is not a blanket promise of immunity. Where the release describes informant rewards, qualifying information leading to otherwise lost tax recovery may attract 15% of recovered tax, capped at S$100,000, at IRAS’ discretion. Informant identities are kept confidential. Use the official release links for its reporting and disclosure channels.
