Announcement and status
MOM arrested 17 people on 2 September 2025 over suspected illegal employment and false applications. They included five current or former proprietors of seven outlets, an agency key appointment holder and 11 female work-permit holders.
Case details and examples
Non-operating outlets allegedly hired performing artistes who were released to freelance as hostesses elsewhere. The 11 passes were revoked; another 42 foreigners’ passes were revoked and the agency licence suspended pending investigation. These administrative actions are distinct from convictions.
Official advisory and follow-up
The source describes the historical six-month performing-artiste scheme and its review after repeated abuse. It states up to S$20,000 or two years or both for false declarations or unauthorised self-employment, with possible debarment. Approved passes require genuine work for the authorised employer, not an unused nominal position.
