Announcement and status
MOM and Police inspected 27 locations on 23 September 2024 and arrested 32 people over suspected illegal employment. A 33-year-old man allegedly belonged to a syndicate operating 28 shell entertainment outlets.
Case details and examples
Sixteen men and 15 women also allegedly made false employment declarations where companies were not operational or did not need them. Investigations were ongoing. The source announced a review of the performing-artiste scheme; its short-term scheme description is historical.
Official advisory and follow-up
The advisory requires accurate declarations and valid passes, with possible S$20,000 or two years or both for the cited foreign-employment or false-declaration offences. Suspension and debarment are additional possible actions. Later Singpass and EFMA prosecutions are separate dated follow-ups, not outcomes already known in this release.
Work-pass authorisation and distinct liabilities
The release distinguishes a foreigner’s authorisation to work from an employer’s authority to hire that person. A pass for a different employer or occupation does not automatically cover another job. Where the release cites the general EFMA ranges, illegal hiring by an employer may attract S$5,000–S$30,000 or up to 12 months or both, while unauthorised foreign work may attract up to S$20,000 or two years or both. These are possible consequences upon conviction, not a finding that every investigated person committed an offence.
