Estate-Duty Form SC Conditions: Historical Eligibility Checklist

The June 2007 checklist determines when an old estate requires Form ED instead of the simplified SC route.

Source checked · 11 October 2026 Historical document

Key steps and distinctions

This checklist applies to a deceased person domiciled in Singapore under the historical estate-duty regime. A yes answer to any of six questions directs the executor to file Form ED and obtain duty clearance before the grant; all no answers permit the stated SC1, SC2 and SC4 route. The triggers include death before 1 January 2002, specified commercial property or business/private-share interests, unpaid property-sale proceeds, dwelling-house value above S$9 million, other-property value above S$600,000, and specified recent gifts or disposals. Jointly held assets and relevant gifts are included in the stated valuation scope; these are not merely balances passing through the executor’s bank account. The checklist must not be applied to modern deaths: IRAS confirms estate duty was removed for deaths on or after 15 February 2008. Current court asset schedules and estate-income-tax obligations are separate matters. For an older estate, check date of death, domicile, asset classes and the applicable detailed rules before choosing a form. A threshold below which the simplified route applies is not permission to omit assets.
