Getting Estate Duty Clearance

Estate-duty clearance is not required for deaths on or after 15 February 2008.

Source checked · 11 October 2026 Historical document

Key requirements

For earlier deaths, the source describes limited no-clearance situations, including safe-deposit contents worth no more than S$10,000 and specified jointly owned HDB-flat cases. Other legacy cases may require a grant of representation, SC forms where eligible or ED and supporting documents. Duty and interest are settled before the Commissioner’s schedule of assets is sent to the courts. Some simple asset structures can still require duty clearance even without a grant. Distinguish the bank’s release requirements, probate authority and historical tax clearance. A current death should follow current probate requirements rather than this former estate-duty sequence.
