Workplace briefings and drills
Show employees escape routes and places where they can shelter if escape becomes unsafe. Distinguish alarms for different incidents, including fire and armed attacks. Rehearse the response regularly rather than relying on a written plan alone.
Run, hide, tell and casualty assistance
Move away from danger quickly and quietly, leave belongings behind and avoid the attacker’s view. If escape is impossible, shelter out of sight, silence the phone and secure the entrance where safe. Report location, attacker description, weapons and direction of travel to Police when safe. The original bulletin also introduces bleeding-control training: obtain recognised first-aid training, ensure scene safety, call 995 and follow emergency-dispatcher instructions; do not improvise a tourniquet without appropriate training.
