Awareness and objectives
The 46-page workshop combines person-borne and suspicious-item awareness with exercise design, demonstration and role play. Report objective conduct rather than infer intent from identity. Do not approach or handle a suspicious item; keep a safe distance and follow security and police directions.
Design the exercise
Agree realistic objectives with the stakeholders and tailor the scenario to the premises.
| Task | Content |
|---|---|
| Objectives | Roles before/after police arrival; evacuation/lockdown; communication; liaison; staff accounting; continuity/recovery. |
| Injects | Narrative, changes, applicable SOP, activation, incident information and questions for each role. |
| Personnel | Controller, facilitator, timekeeper and after-action observer; mix relevant departments. |
| Logistics | Room, current SOPs, scenario slides, participant and observer worksheets. |
Execution, demonstration and review
Brief participants, narrate injects and let departments explain actions and information routes. Encourage quieter participants and use non-leading questions. Distinguish actual arrangements from assumptions. Demonstration and group role play should test lockdown decisions, accounting for people and police handover. Conclude with a debrief and after-action review assigning an owner, deadline and retest to each gap.
