Recognising warning signs
Train staff to identify and report suspicious activity without equating ordinary identity or beliefs with wrongdoing. MOM identifies support for terrorist violence, promotion of terrorist activity or group insignia as radicalisation concerns. Items may be abandoned, unusually taped or posted, have no return address or only a title, restrictive markings, spelling errors, stains, unusual odour, ticking or exposed wires.
People and vehicles
Behaviour concerns include recording security features, apparent concealment of objects or identity, protruding wires, prolonged loitering, unauthorised entry or work pretexts, no pass or explanation, unexpected deliveries, leaving parcels in crowds and unexplained detailed security/person-movement questions. Vehicle concerns include repeated circuits, abrupt abandonment, heavy loading, suspicious wired objects, apparent tampering or a new plate on an old dirty vehicle. Consider context and use the official reporting route.
