Medical Insurance for WP and S Pass: Full Allowable Exclusions

The complete three-page A/B/C list, effective date and first-treatment distinctions.

Source reviewed: 2026-10-12 · 2025-07-01

Effective date and scope

Standardised allowable exclusions apply to policies, renewals or extensions effective on or after 1 July 2025. Insurers may exclude only the listed treatments, procedures, conditions and activities in WP/S Pass medical insurance.

An allowable exclusion does not mean every policy excludes it or that treatment should be avoided. Read the official requirements with actual policy wording. All items a–cc and their qualifications are retained below.

Group A: Elective and non-essential treatment

The table retains every allowable exclusion in this group and its qualifications.

ItemAllowable exclusion
aAmbulance fees
bCosmetic surgery for self-beautification
cDental care not necessitated by an accident
dVaccinations
eContraceptive procedures and related complications
fAssisted conception and infertility/sub-fertility treatment, including related complications
gSex-reassignment surgery and related complications
hRelated outpatient expenses after the seventh calendar day following medical certification of fitness for discharge and assessment of a feasible discharge option
iOptional items unnecessary for treatment such as television, telephone and specially requested meals
jScreening/tests unrelated to inpatient care or day surgery
kPreventive treatment

Group B: Treatment resulting from employer/worker acts

The table retains every allowable exclusion in this group and its qualifications.

ItemAllowable exclusion
lInjury/condition caused by employer malicious, unlawful or wilful acts; for domestic workers this also includes employer family acts
mInjury/condition arising from the employee’s criminal act
nPregnancy, childbirth including caesarean delivery, abortion and related complications
oVoluntary hazardous sports, including skiing/snowboarding, snorkelling/diving, helicopter tours/paragliding and car/motorcycle racing
pInjury/condition arising directly or indirectly from nuclear fallout
qWar, war-like situations, civil war, mutiny, rebellion, revolution or terrorism
rTreatment of sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS or AIDS Related Complex
sInjury/condition arising from controlled-drug addiction
tSecond or later treatment for the four categories described below

Item t: Only the second or subsequent occasion

Item t permits exclusion only on the second or subsequent occasion for four categories: alcohol or non-controlled-drug addiction; voluntary participation in a strike, riot or civil commotion; attempted suicide, self-inflicted injury or attempted self-injury; and psychiatric, nervous or mental disorders.

For unrest and self-harm, the wording applies whether or not it arises from the same event or attempt. Retain the second-or-subsequent qualification rather than claiming all mental-health or self-injury treatment is excluded.

Group C: Other allowable exclusions

The table retains every allowable exclusion in this group and its qualifications.

ItemAllowable exclusion
uKnown pre-existing conditions during the first twelve months with the same employer, known to employer or employee before cover commenced
vBirth defects, congenital abnormalities, hereditary conditions and related complications
wTreatment outside Singapore
xPrivate nursing fees
yMedical-equipment purchases
zMedical repatriation
aaOutpatient physiotherapy/occupational/speech rehabilitation, unless recommended by a practitioner during day surgery or hospitalisation
bbTraditional, complementary or alternative medicine
ccTreatment reimbursed by required WICA2019 work-injury insurance or other insurance

Qualifications to retain

Item h requires both fitness for discharge and a feasible discharge option, beyond seven days. Item u is limited to the first twelve months with the same employer and prior knowledge. Item aa preserves the practitioner-recommended exception during inpatient/day-surgery care. Item cc concerns reimbursement already received from another insurance.
