What the release reports
MOM’s December 2019 response distinguishes PMETs’ share of retrenched locals from retrenched PMETs’ share of the whole PMET workforce.
Details and conditions
The release uses 7,070 retrenched locals and 1,254,000 local PMET workers in 2018 to show the denominators differ, while PMET retrenchments fell from 6,460 in 2015 to 5,360 in 2018.
Context and follow-up
A higher PMET share within all retrenchments does not by itself show a rising risk among all PMET employees. The statement concerns the correction dispute and preserves those historical statistical definitions.
