Outdoor heat stress: four measures become mandatory

MOM publication date:

What the release reports

MOM announced additional mandatory heat safeguards effective 1 December 2026, giving employers three months to prepare.

Details and conditions

Employers must establish heat-stress training, keep cool drinking water near work areas, prepare cold water, ice packs or water spray for emergencies, and provide clothing appropriate for heat protection. Ventilated, insulated or cooled shaded rest areas are newly recommended.

Context and follow-up

These additions complement existing WBGT monitoring, acclimatisation, hydration, shaded breaks and emergency plans. The announcement distinguishes mandatory safeguards from the recommendation on improved rest-area conditions; employers should train supervisors and check supplies before implementation.
