What the release reports
A trilateral group released ten recommendations addressing illegal platform work and concerns about pay or incentives that encourage excessive hours. Participating operators will implement changes in stages.
Details and conditions
Where MOM establishes that a worker abetted a foreigner’s illegal work using an account, all operators will impose at least twenty-four months’ debarment. Proposals also require stronger identity checks, outsourcing due diligence and work-pass documentation for relevant app-allocated jobs.
Context and follow-up
Dedicated reporting channels distinguish illegal rides from illegal delivery work; people should report concerns rather than confront suspects. Operators and worker associations will develop payment principles and share clearer earnings information. The recommendations build on representation under the Platform Workers Act, effective January 2025.
