Dormitory transition grant: eligibility and interim standards

MOM publication date:

What the release reports

A grant will support around nine hundred existing dormitories in meeting interim standards by 2030. Required improvements include twelve-person room caps, 3.6 square metres per resident, ensuite toilets and isolation facilities.

Details and conditions

Eligible dormitories must hold a valid licence on 28 February 2026, have leases extending beyond 2033, and not already meet the New Dormitory Standards. Applications were scheduled for 1 March–31 August 2026 through individual links.

Context and follow-up

Funding depends on the retrofit needed, with higher support for completion during 2026–2028. Operators must submit schedules for approval and complete work as agreed, allowing MOM to manage bed-supply disruption. The long-term transition to new standards remains targeted for 2040.
