The Two EP Eligibility Stages
Stage 1 is the EP qualifying salary. Stage 2 is COMPASS, unless the candidate is exempt. A candidate who fails Stage 1 is ineligible even if projected COMPASS points are sufficient. Stage 1 salary eligibility and C1 scoring use different benchmarks and should be checked separately.
How Does an Application Reach 40 Points?
At least 40 points are required to pass COMPASS. C1 to C4 are foundational criteria worth up to 20 points each; C5 offers up to 20 bonus points and C6 up to 10. Each criterion need not score 10. A zero in one criterion may be offset by qualifying scores elsewhere, while all other EP requirements remain applicable.
Individual Attributes: C1 Salary and C2 Qualifications
C1 compares fixed monthly salary with local PMET salary benchmarks for sector and age. C2 scores qualification categories. Claiming qualification points requires the prescribed qualification and verification evidence. Candidates without degree-equivalent qualifications can reach 40 points through other criteria; absence of qualification points is not automatically disqualifying.
Firm Attributes and Bonus Criteria
C3 assesses the candidate’s nationality share among the firm’s PMETs; C4 assesses local PMET share relative to sector peers. Firms with fewer than 25 PMETs default to 10 points each for C3 and C4. C5 requires qualifying shortage occupations and job conditions. C6 depends on supporting-agency recognition under eligible programmes and is not automatic.
Example: 10 Points in Each Foundational Criterion
An illustrative application scoring 10 each for C1, C2, C3 and C4 totals 40 without bonus points. This demonstrates scoring; it does not imply that every candidate with a similar title, salary or qualification earns 10. Use SAT for the actual assessment and separately check recruitment advertising, documents and other requirements.
