Register within 42 days
Register every Singapore birth through LifeSG within 42 days, regardless of the parents’ immigration or marital status. Prepare the child’s details and parents’ identity, birth, nationality, race and dialect records; a marriage certificate and foreign passport biodata page may be requested. Overseas births are registered with the foreign authority, not Singapore’s birth registry.
Digital certificate and a foreign child’s stay
Registration and the digital certificate cost S$18. Notification is normally shortly after registration; verification cases generally take three working days, sometimes longer. Download within 90 days and save the file. A non-citizen newborn is deemed to hold a 42-day Special Pass; obtain a passport from the relevant embassy and arrange an appropriate pass before that stay expires. Optional ethnic names must use recognised characters; a Hanyu Pinyin name must have a corresponding Chinese name and will also appear in the passport.
