Leadership, mindset and speaking up
Train leaders to recognise unconscious bias, listen actively and follow up feedback. Remove language, cultural and physical barriers: translate important policies where needed and use understandable safety symbols. Team activities such as a shared memory wall or office trivia can help colleagues connect. Create regular opportunities for people to raise concerns without judgment.
Address prejudice and hire fairly
Respond firmly to stereotypes and discriminatory comments. Assess applicants by skills, experience and ability rather than race, religion, age, gender or family responsibilities, and consider diverse interview panels and recruitment channels. The bulletin’s 2019 funding and roadshow references describe that period and should not be treated as open offers.
