Coverage and citizen-child calculation
Part-time, temporary, contract and probationary employees’ entitlement is adjusted by hours, provided the child is under 7 and the 3-continuous-month qualifying period is met. For a citizen child, hours = part-time weekly hours ÷ comparable full-time weekly hours × that full-time worker’s childcare days based on service × full-time daily hours, subject to a minimum of 2 days.
Official example and non-citizen child
MOM’s example uses 4 part-time hours weekly, compared with full-time 44 weekly and 8 daily: 4 ÷ 44 × 6 × 8 = approximately 4.4 hours. The minimum makes entitlement 2 days of 4 hours each. For a non-citizen child under the Employment Act, calculate annualised part-time weekly hours (×52) ÷ annualised comparable full-time hours (×52) × 2 days × comparable daily hours.
