Using and scheduling leave
Leave can be used to spend time with a child for any reason, such as the first school day or when care cannot be arranged; no child medical certificate is required. Give early notice and agree suitable dates. Employer approval is required, but employers are strongly encouraged to approve time-sensitive immunisation or school-registration needs.
Restrictions
Leave cannot be transferred between spouses, cashed out, carried past the agreed 12-month period or transferred to a new employer. It cannot offset termination notice. Employers are encouraged to approve leave within notice, and taking it does not extend notice.
