What the release reports
From 1 January 2025, expanded machinery categories bring additional manufacturers, suppliers, installers and modifiers under statutory safety duties. Examples include sheet benders, lathes, industrial cutters, packaging, mixing and food-processing machines.
Details and conditions
Machinery must be safe when properly used, with testing and safe-use information. Installation or alteration must not undermine safety. The measures follow recommendations from the 2021 Stars Engrg explosion inquiry.
Context and follow-up
Combustible-dust containers require hazard labels; for organic dust such as flour, this applies from 25kg packages. Occupiers handling specified dust above scheduled thresholds must notify MOM and building owners or landlords. Existing explosion-prevention controls remain necessary.
