What the release reports
Revised statutory lifting-equipment requirements take effect on 12 September 2025 after consultation and international benchmarking. They aim to reduce unnecessary disruption without removing maintenance duties.
Details and conditions
Periodic overload tests after registration are removed. Occupiers may appoint competent persons for periodic lifting-gear re-examinations, although authorised examiners remain required before first use and after major repair or modification. Hoist examination intervals change from six to twelve months.
Context and follow-up
Owners must keep equipment in sound condition and retain appropriate examinations and functional tests. The release links a detailed factsheet and infographic. Flexibility in who performs a periodic check does not eliminate the need for critical authorised examinations.
