Key Employment Terms Explained: Notes for Each KETs Field

How this annotated form differs

The explanatory edition accompanies the blank KETs form with notes on what to enter. It is useful when setting up the first employee file or checking whether a contract omits essential terms. Use the notes to understand each field, then put the employee’s agreed terms in the final document.

KET fields to complete
GroupFields
EmploymentEmployer and employee names; job title and duties; start date; fixed-term duration
Work arrangementsDaily hours, working days and rest day
PaySalary period, basic pay, allowances, deductions, overtime period and rate, other pay components
Leave and medicalLeave types and medical benefits
Other termsProbation, notice period; work location is optional but encouraged

Frequent errors to check

Do not confuse basic salary with total earnings, salary period with payment date, or the overtime payment period with the ordinary salary period. Identify the leave and medical arrangements rather than leaving headings empty. If common terms sit in a handbook, make the applicable version accessible to the employee.

Applicable items

Include the statutory items unless they do not apply. For a PME without overtime entitlement, overtime period and overtime rate need not be listed. Work location is optional but strongly encouraged. The verification tool helps check work arrangements and generate the working-time and salary sections; blank and explained templates are available.
