What the release reports
MND and MOM planned short-term housing for around 60,000 workers through quick-build sites, reused properties and temporary construction quarters, followed by purpose-built expansion.
Details and conditions
The quick-build pilot proposed six square metres per resident excluding shared facilities, rooms of at most ten single beds with one-metre spacing, and one toilet set per five beds.
Context and follow-up
The programme aimed to reduce density and test more resilient design and operations. These were pilot standards, subsequently refined in the September 2021 framework; they should not be mistaken for the later universal new-dormitory specifications.
Quick-build pilot comparison
| Item | Earlier | 2020 pilot |
|---|---|---|
| Space | 4.5 sqm including shared facilities | 6 sqm excluding shared facilities |
| Room | No stated cap | 10 single beds; one-metre spacing |
| Toilets | Set per 15 beds | Set per 5 beds |
| Isolation per 1,000 | 1 permanent + 19 extra | 15 permanent + 10 extra |
Pilot design was later refined; this is not the subsequent 2021 standard.
