Flexible work requests: proper consideration, not automatic approval

MOM publication date:

What the release reports

Mandatory guidelines start on 1 December 2024 and cover formal flexible-work requests from employees who have completed probation. They apply to all employers, including SMEs.

Details and conditions

Requests must be documented with enough information for assessment. Employers must consider business grounds and communicate decisions transparently and promptly, but retain authority over the final arrangement. Jobseekers are outside the formal-request requirement.

Context and follow-up

The ten accepted recommendations emphasise responsible requests, education, templates and implementation support. Employees may approach TAFEP over non-compliance. A fair process is required; the guidelines do not promise approval of every requested arrangement.
