What the release reports
MOM announced that new timber scaffolds erected from 1 January 2027 may be used for three months instead of nine. Earlier installations retain their nine-month period.
Details and conditions
The change responds to fire risks and deterioration through weather, wear and damage. Individual extensions may be considered for exceptional constraints. MOM encourages more durable, non-combustible alternatives such as metal scaffold systems.
Context and follow-up
At this July announcement, scaffold-netting fire-performance requirements were still being reviewed with SCDF. Manufacturers, suppliers and contractors were identified as potential duty-holders. The later September release provides further netting dates and specifications; the two announcements represent separate policy stages.
