What the release reports
Parliament passed the first workplace-fairness Bill on 8 January 2025. It addresses adverse decisions in hiring, appraisal, training, promotion and dismissal based on protected characteristics.
Details and conditions
Protection covers age; nationality; sex, marriage, pregnancy and caregiving; race, religion and language; disability and mental health. Employers must establish grievance processes, while existing tripartite guidelines continue to cover other discrimination.
Context and follow-up
MOM’s approach combines education with directions, administrative financial penalties and civil penalties for serious misconduct. This release concerns passage of the first Bill; the later dispute-resolution Bill and commencement timetable are separate developments.
